HOEM is an independently owned student residence and will remain fully open and operational throughout COVID-19. We are still welcoming new students through the summer and fall semesters and can't wait to meet you! Please see below for a list of measures we are taking to assist you through this time.
HOEM recognizes that this is a financially difficult time for many students and their families. We have provided a significant amount of financial relief to our students and continue to review individual cases daily.
In order to provide support to our residents who are experiencing financial hardship as a result of COVID-19, HOEM is offering individual payment plans. Please follow this link to request a payment plan. Our team is ready and able to support you through this process.
If you are looking to move in this summer or fall and would like to explore options for a payment plan, please email us directly at firstname.lastname@example.org and we'd be happy to help.
HOEM Airport Concierge Service
With COVID-19, the thought of travelling might be intimidating. But don't worry - we've got you covered! If you’re staying with us in the Fall and are arriving to Toronto via Pearson International Airport, take advantage of our HOEM Airport Concierge Program at no additional cost.
HOW IT WORKS:
When you register for the HOEM Airport Concierge Program we'll take care of picking you up from the airport and everything after that! You'll be greeted by one of our HOEM Service Desk Agents (who is also a student and fellow HOEMie!) and our private driver who will make sure you make it HOEM safely. We'll have a temporary space available for you where you'll be able to self-isolate and monitor your health for a period of 14 days (only if required by government regulations). During this period, we'll arrange 3 meals per day to be delivered right to your door, and we'll help with whatever else you need to be comfortable in your stay at HOEM! Once the isolation period is over, we'll help you get moved in to your permanent room.
This service is for arrivals starting on August 26th. To register, please fill out the form at the link HERE.
New Student Orientation
If you’ve applied to live at HOEM in September, keep an eye out for our welcome email in July, which will include ways that you can start getting to know each other before you even move in. We’ve got this!
Students experiencing symptoms
Students experiencing symptoms are asked to complete the self-reporting form HERE. Once received, our team will connect with the student via phone to gather additional information. Any student who has been in contact with someone confirmed to have COVID-19 or has been confirmed to have COVID-19 themselves, will be removed from the suite into a separate suite on their own and our staff will come in to do a thorough clean of the suite. The student will remain in a separate suite until 14 days has elapsed from the start of the symptoms and symptoms are no longer present, or they receive negative test results. During this time, the remaining suitemate(s) will be asked to monitor their health and our team will check in on them daily. HOEM is committed to supporting all students throughout this process while respecting the privacy of everyone involved.
Symptoms of COVID-19 include:
- Dry cough
- Shortness of breath
- Aches and pains
- Sore throat
There are a number of precautions we are taking to keep our HOEM safe. We continue to review and update these procedures as new information becomes available.
CLEANING and Closures
We have been taking a number of measures to adjust cleaning schedules and access to common areas throughout HOEM.
Currently common areas are closed. We will continue to evaluate this in accordance with Toronto Public Health guidelines and restrictions during this time.
Masks are available for all students living in the building, which they are able to request and pickup at the front desk.
On March 24th we completed a treatment of Aegis Microbe Shield in all common areas (hallways, lobby, doors, amenities, stairwells, elevators, etc.). Aegis Microbe Shield is the only Health Canada registered, permanently bonding antimicrobial treatment and kills up to 99% of germs on contact. This product was applied to all high-touch areas and surfaces, killing germs on contact and reducing microbial growth on treated surfaces by up to 99%. It offers 12 months of protection. Additionally, we continue to practice increased daily sanitization of all common areas.
One staff member continues to be on-site daily to assist with student needs.
HOEM’s suite layout allows for all students to have their own private bedroom and only share a washroom with one other student. The bi-weekly in-suite cleaning means that all common spaces in the suite will be thoroughly cleaned by our expert staff that will be assigned to specific suites for the year, and always be wearing masks and gloves when inside suites.
Prior to move-in, HOEM provides contact information for any suitemate(s), ensuring that students can connect with each other before arriving. At move-in students will be required to answer screening questions regarding their travel, close contacts and their health or if they’re experiencing any symptoms.
If students are arriving internationally, they’ll be required to follow any governmental isolation guidelines. We’ve developed our HOEM Airport Concierge program to assist any student arriving internationally to ensure they have private transportation from the airport to HOEM and we will arrange 3 meals a day to be delivered directly to their bedroom so that they don’t have to worry about anything!
At move-in, all HOEM students will receive a reusable, washable face mask, and have sanitizer and disinfectant wipes in their bedroom. Students are encouraged to maintain the cleanliness in their suite between the bi-weekly in-suite cleaning provided, and they will be provided supplies to do so (including all-purpose cleaner, toilet cleaner, glass cleaner and some additional cleaning supplies).
Our guest policy is currently limited to one guest per student. This is to reduce social interaction and ensure we are following the guidelines for social distancing.
Luxer One App
We encourage all residents to sign up for touchless package pickup with Luxer One. This will allow you to retrieve any delivery packages using an app on your phone without having to touch the package lockers. Instructions will be provided upon move-in.
Inkblot Virtual Counselling
HOEM is pleased to introduce a new benefit delivered through Inkblot, a provider of video counselling delivered on a secure and encrypted platform. Access is on-line with the ability to select from a short-list of best-matched counsellors based on your unique needs and preferences. Appointments are booked directly on-line with your selected counsellor with the first 30-minute session free.
Until June 30th, following a complimentary initial session, HOEM is covering the cost of up to 2 additional hours of counselling per student. Subsequent sessions with the same counsellor are reimbursable through student health benefits or can be paid privately.
